Find and back up your data
Radio Bench stores its settings and data in folders under your user account. Removing or updating the application does not delete them.
Data folders
| Platform | Settings and data | Cache |
|---|---|---|
| macOS | ~/Library/Application Support/com.rbench.rbench |
~/Library/Caches/com.rbench.rbench |
| Windows | %APPDATA%\rbench\rbench\config and %APPDATA%\rbench\rbench\data |
%LOCALAPPDATA%\rbench\rbench\cache |
| Linux | ~/.config/rbench and ~/.local/share/rbench |
~/.cache/rbench |
On macOS, settings and data share one folder. On Linux, the XDG_CONFIG_HOME, XDG_DATA_HOME, and XDG_CACHE_HOME variables change these locations when they are set.
| Item | Location |
|---|---|
| Application settings and station profiles | egui-settings.json in the settings folder |
| Custom band plans | The bandplans folder in the settings folder |
| Default logbook | qsos.db in the data folder |
| Recordings | Your Downloads folder, or your home folder if there is no Downloads folder, unless you chose another folder |
| Map tiles | The map-tiles folder in the cache folder |
A logbook that you created or opened elsewhere stays at its own location. Open the logbook menu and select Show logbook folder to find it. To find recordings, select Open in the RECORDING section.
Callsign-lookup passwords are in the operating system credential store, not in these folders. License files are tied to this computer. Do not copy them to another computer. Activate there instead.
Back up your station
- Close Radio Bench so that the logbook file is complete.
- Copy each logbook file that you use.
- Copy
egui-settings.jsonand thebandplansfolder to keep station profiles, custom band plans, and other settings. - Copy recordings that you want to keep.
Also keep periodic ADIF exports in a location separate from the computer. ADIF is the portable format for other logging programs.
The cache holds downloaded data, such as map tiles, that Radio Bench can fetch again. It does not need a backup.
Move to a new computer
- On the old computer, select
Show logbook folderin the logbook menu andOpenin theRECORDINGsection. Note the folders that they open. - Open
Settings>Licenseand selectDeactivate this computer. After deactivation, the workspace is not available. - Close Radio Bench. Copy your logbooks, recordings,
egui-settings.json, and thebandplansfolder. - Install Radio Bench on the new computer and activate your purchase.
- Close Radio Bench, then put the copied files in the same folders on the new computer.
- Open Radio Bench and use
Open logbook…if a logbook is in a new location.
Audio devices, serial ports, and SDR serial numbers can differ on the new computer. Review Settings > Audio, Settings > Rig Control, and the Source panel.
Activation can also replace a computer that no longer works. See manage computers.
Remove all data
After you remove the application, delete the settings, data, and cache folders above. Copy any logbook or recording that you want to keep first. Logbooks and recordings in other folders are not in these folders, so delete them separately.
Saved lookup passwords stay in the operating system credential store. To remove them, delete the com.rbench.radiobench.callsign-lookup entry with Keychain Access on macOS, Credential Manager on Windows, or your Secret Service keyring manager on Linux.
